Event: Special Weather Statement
Sender Name: NWS Tiyan GU
Issued: 2019-09-15T13:29:00+10:00
Expires: 2019-09-16T14:00:00+10:00
Description: At 1 PM, Tropical Depression 17W was located east-northeast of the
Marianas, about 250 miles east-northeast of Saipan, 260 miles east-
northeast of Tinian, 305 miles east-northeast of Rota and 355 miles
east-northeast of Guam moving toward the northwest. 17W is not
expected to directly impact Guam or the CNMI, however, the monsoon
associated with this system will continue to produce heavy showers
across all of the islands. Continuous light rain with numerous
embedded showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue
to move over the islands through the next 12 to 24 hours. With
already saturated ground, this will greatly increase the flood hazard
across the islands and creates a risk of mudslides in steep, hilly
areas made of clay. A Flash Flood Watch is currently in effect for
the Marianas while a Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Guam. An
Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory is in effect for the CNMI. If
conditions warrant, the Flash Flood Watch for the CNMI will be
upgraded to a warning. Strong, gusty winds are possible with the
heavy showers.

For islands in the northern CNMI, including Agrihan, Pagan and
Alamagan: At 1 PM, TD 17W was 315 miles southeast of Agrihan, 280
miles east-southeast of Pagan, 265 miles east-southeast of Alamagan
and 250 miles east of Anatahan. 17W is forecast to pass within 75
miles northeast of Agrihan near 9 AM Monday. 17W is not expected to
strengthen beyond a depression at this time and is likely to remain
east of the islands. However, residents should closely monitor the
situation in case of any changes. Showers will begin to increase in
coverage over the next few hours. Heavy rainfall in excess of 6
inches is possible over the next 24 hours.

Residents of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands should stay informed of the latest forecast, warnings and
advisories from the National Weather Service and heed the directions
of your local Emergency Management Office. The latest weather
