The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Yavapai County in west central Arizona…
Coconino County in north central Arizona…

* Until 245 PM MST Friday

* At 148 AM MST, automated river gauges show a large volume of water
moving through Oak Creek due to heavy rain from Thursdays rain.
Flash flooding is occurring. Current river gauge readings on Oak
Creek in Sedona show river levels at 11.9 feet. Crest is expected
to occur in Sedona around at 12 feet around 2 AM.

The Oak Creek at Cornville gage was reading 15.1 feet at 2 AM.
It is nearing its forecast peak now, and is forecast to slowly
recede, falling below 8 feet around 2 PM.

Flash flooding is also occurring on O’dell Creek in Munds Park.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Sedona, Munds Park, Junipine Resort, Garland’s Oak Creek Lodge,
Page Springs, Cornville, Slide Rock State Park, Cave Springs
Campground, Red Rock State Park, Pine Flat Campground, Manzanita
Campground and Sterling Fish Hatchery.

This includes the following streams and drainages…Dry Creek…
Turkey Creek…Oak Creek…West Fork Oak Creek…Verde River and
Spring Creek.

This includes the following highways…
Interstate 17 between mile markers 321 and 328.
State Route 179 between mile markers 310 and 313.
State Route 89A between mile markers 373 and 389.

Instruction: Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
