Event: Coastal Flood Watch
Sender Name: NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
Issued: 2018-12-16T05:57:00-05:00
Expires: 2018-12-16T14:00:00-05:00
Description: The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has
issued a Coastal Flood Watch, which is in effect from late
tonight through Tuesday evening.

* LOCATIONS…Shoreline in the District of Columbia.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE…Tidal anomalies themselves will be 1 to 1.5
feet above normal. However, the main source of excess water will
be fresh water flowing down the Potomac from recent heavy
rains, which will overwhelm the tidal anomalies, particularly at
Wisconsin Avenue.

* TIMING…Starting near the time of high tide late tonight and
continuing through the day Tuesday.

* IMPACTS…The unprotected area on the Southwest Waterfront at
the DC Seafood Market is expected to flood. Water is expected to
approach parts of the Hains Point Loop Road, but it will likely
be closed. Water is expected to approach buildings near King
Street and Union Street. Shoreline inundation up to one foot
above ground is possible elsewhere.

Instruction: A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings, and take action to
protect property.
