Event: Flash Flood Watch
Sender Name: NWS Newport/Morehead City NC
Description: A slow moving cold front will linger along the coast this
morning, while an area of low pressure strengthens along the
front and lifts along the North Carolina coast this afternoon and
evening. This system will produce widespread rain across the
area, heavy at times through this morning. An additional 1 to 3
inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts possible
along the coast.
Although most locations have been drier than normal, coastal
locations have received above normal rainfall recently, and
additional heavy rains could produce flooding, especially in low
lying and poor drainage areas. The heavy rains will also create
dangerous driving conditions during this mornings commute due to
poor visibilities and deep ponding of water on area roads.
The rain is expected to rapidly taper late this morning and early
this afternoon as drier air begins to filter into region.
The Flash Flood Watch continues for
