Update: Flash Flood Watch issued January 29 at 3:15AM EST expiring January 29 at 12:00PM EST by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC

Event: Flash Flood Watch
Sender Name: NWS Newport/Morehead City NC
Issued: 2018-01-29T03:15:21-05:00
Expires: 2018-01-29T11:15:00-05:00
Description: A slow moving cold front will linger along the coast this
morning, while an area of low pressure strengthens along the
front and lifts along the North Carolina coast this afternoon and
evening. This system will produce widespread rain across the
area, heavy at times through this morning. An additional 1 to 3
inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts possible
along the coast.

Although most locations have been drier than normal, coastal
locations have received above normal rainfall recently, and
additional heavy rains could produce flooding, especially in low
lying and poor drainage areas. The heavy rains will also create
dangerous driving conditions during this mornings commute due to
poor visibilities and deep ponding of water on area roads.

The rain is expected to rapidly taper late this morning and early
this afternoon as drier air begins to filter into region.
The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of eastern North Carolina, including the following
areas, Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Jones, Mainland Dare,
Mainland Hyde, Onslow, Outer Banks Dare, Outer Banks Hyde,
Pamlico, Tyrrell, and Washington.

* Until noon EST today

* 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected to occur across Eastern North
Carolina through late this morning and early afternoon, with
locally higher amounts possible along the coast.

* Heavy rains could produce flooding in urban, low lying and
poor drainage areas especially vicinity of the coast through
Monday morning.

Instruction: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
