Event: Flash Flood Watch
Sender Name: NWS Newport/Morehead City NC
Issued: 2018-01-28T17:38:23-05:00
Expires: 2018-01-29T05:00:00-05:00
Description: A slow moving cold front will cross Eastern North Carolina late
tonight. Meanwhile an area of low pressure will develop along the
front late tonight and move northeast just off the coast Monday.
This system will produce widespread rain across the area, heavy at
times tonight through Monday morning. 2 to 3 inches of rain is
expected inland with 3 to 4 inches forecast east of Highway 17.
Local amounts of 5 inches or more are possible along the coast.

Although most locations have been drier than normal, coastal
locations have received above normal rainfall recently, and
additional heavy rains could produce flooding, especially in low
lying and poor drainage areas. The heavy rains will also create
dangerous driving conditions during Monday mornings rush hour due
to poor visibilities and deep ponding of water on area roads.

The rain is expected to rapidly taper off Monday afternoon as
drier air begins to filter into region.
The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of eastern North Carolina,
including the following areas, Beaufort, Carteret, Craven,
Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Mainland Dare, Mainland Hyde,
Martin, Onslow, Outer Banks Dare, Outer Banks Hyde, Pamlico,
Pitt, Tyrrell, and Washington.

* From 10 PM EST this evening through noon Monday.

* 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected to occur across Eastern North
Carolina tonight into Monday with local amounts of 5 inches or
more possible near the coast.

* Heavy rains could produce flooding in urban, low lying and poor
drainage areas especially vicinity of the coast through Monday
morning.
